Wet trimming, while the cut is still fresh.

Wet trimming is the removal of excess leaf shortly after harvest, before the flowers are dried. It is the work Michigan Trimmers is built around.

What the day actually is

Plants come down. Fan leaves and the sugar leaf you do not want on the finished flower come off while the material is still wet. The trimmed flower then goes to dry. Because the plants are full of water, everything is heavier, stickier, and on a clock: the longer fresh flower sits untrimmed, the more the rest of the harvest plan slips.

Manual trimming at that stage is repetition with judgment. A bud that is overworked looks tired after it dries. A bud that still wears a skirt of leaf does not look like the flower you grew. The crew's job is to land between those two, at the standard you set before the scissors come out.

We do not claim wet trimming is always the higher-quality choice. Plenty of careful growers dry trim, and plenty of careful growers wet trim. What we do claim is that a wet trim needs people who have done it enough times to stay tidy when the room gets sticky.

What we pay attention to

  • Flower structure. The shape you grew should still be the shape after the leaf is gone.
  • How much sugar leaf you want left. Tell us. We will match that, not a house style you never asked for.
  • Handling. Fresh flowers bruise and bend. Bins, tables, and pace matter.
  • The handoff to drying. A wet trim is only useful if the flower can move on when it is ready.

What helps the quote

The city, the rough weight if you know it, and the day you expect to cut. If the number is a guess, mark “not sure yet.” If you already know you want a close trim or a fuller look, put that in the notes.

It helps when there is room to work and a drying plan on your side. We are not taking over the facility. We are there to trim. Access, tables, and where finished bins go are worth mentioning so the day is not invented on the spot.

Eligibility depends on your operation and on current Michigan rules. The form asks what kind of operation you run so we can talk about that honestly. It is not an approval.
